Christopher Butler, Ballet

Originally from Guam, Chris Butler started dancing at the age of 12 under the guidance of John Grensback.

After high school he continued on to the Houston Ballet Academy, SUNY-Purchase College and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under the tutelage of Marcia Dale Weary and Darla Hoover until he joined Ballet Austin II in 2006, where he worked with Stephen Mills, Thaddeus Davis and Thang Dao.

Since his arrival at Nashville Ballet in 2007, Chris has appeared in works by Gina Patterson, Sarah Slipper, James Canfield and Kelsey Bartman. Chris has also performed principal and soloist roles including the lead in Twyla Tharp’s The Storyteller and the role of Hilarion in Giselle.

Chris joined the National Choreographer's Initiative and most recently Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance where he worked with noted choreographers Ma Cong and Heather Maloy, respectively.

Chris explores his artistic talent outside the studio by playing guitar and as a concrete engraver with Concrete Mystique in Nashville.
