At Nashville Ballet since 2007
Originally from Conyers, Ga., Kayla Rowser trained at the Magdalena Maury School of Classical Ballet in Fayetteville, Ga., with Georgia Youth Ballet under the direction of Magdalena Maury, Jonsie Pollock and Magda Aunon. She spent her summers studying with American Ballet Theatre, Atlanta Ballet and Washington Ballet, among others.
After graduating high school, Kayla joined Charleston Ballet Theatre for one season before joining Nashville Ballet's second company, NB2, in 2007. In her two years as a trainee, she performed with the main company in several series.
Kayla joined the main company as an apprentice in 2009, where she performed as Zulme in Giselle, Balanchine's Who Cares? and Vasterling's Awaiting Redemption.
Since being promoted to company member in 2010, Kayla has performed as Snow Queen and Sugar Plum Fairy in Nashville’s Nutcracker, Pas de Trois in Swan Lake, Cupid in Vasterling’s Carmina Burana, and in Salvatore Aiello’s Afternoon of a Faun. She was featured as the title role in Nashville Ballet’s 2012 performance of Firebird and as Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty. Kayla has also been seen as Tinkerbell in Vasterling’s Peter Pan. In 2014, she performed in Vasterling’s The Ben Folds Project, Eurydice in Vasterling’s Orpheus, Russian Girl in Balanchine’s Serenade, and in Jiri Kylian’s Petit Mort.
Kayla was featured as one of Dance Magazine’s “Top 25 to Watch” in 2013, and has been spotlighted in Pointe Magazine and on The Huffington Post. She performed excerpts of Christopher Stuart’s Under the Lights at the Kansas City Dance Festival this summer. Kayla was also honored by Yale University when she was invited to teach master classes during the spring of 2014.
When Kayla is not in the studio, she enjoys teaching ballet to young students. She is also working towards a degree in Communications at Nashville State Community College.
