Pilates & Ballet
Carrie Ann Gerow earned her bachelor’s degree in dance at New World School of the Arts in Miami, Fla. She has danced with Nashville Ballet 2, Momentum Dance Company and Karen Peterson and Dancers, a mixed ability company making works for able-bodied dancers alongside dancers with disabilities. Touring the South Eastern U.S., Brazil and the Bahamas with these and other contemporary dance ensembles, she has had the great opportunity to work with diverse teachers and choreographers, and study various ethnic dance forms.
In addition to her duties at the School of Nashville Ballet, she serves on the faculty of Belmont University's dance program where she created and teaches the first dance kinesiology curriculum offered at the university. She also teaches courses in ballet, modern and choreography for the Belmont Dance Company. Carrie maintains a performing schedule with Still Point Dance Theatre, Nashville in Motion, the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville and Epiphany Dance Company. Sometimes serving as a teaching artist with the Art Smart Program at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, she draws on the ideas of aesthetic education to facilitate her students' work in making interdisciplinary curriculum connections, and seeing the rich study of dance as a window to a deeper understanding of themselves and their surroundings.
She is a certified Pilates instructor, and brings this very useful alignment perspective into all her teaching work. Carrie is passionate about offering dancers tools to lengthen their careers, decrease their likelihood of injury and genuinely enjoy and share their dancing.
