You know, you would think I would be feeling a little more prepared – after the auditions and the rehearsals and then the dress rehearsals…tonight still just felt so far away. And now here it is, jumping out in front of us with the stealth and precision of a well-trained soldier: The Nutcracker!
This evening, Nashville Ballet’s company and youth cast are winding up for Opening Night of Paul Vasterling’s very own Nutcracker, making its second run since its premiere in December of 2008. This show is unlike any other: By giving this performance its special twist, Mr. Vasterling has, once more, breathed new life into a classic.
Needless to say, things have been quite busy around here! We’ve made the move to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and will be setting up camp there until December 20th. Our warehouse has been emptied of props and structures, and our costume shop has been moving out racks of intricate and dazzling designs all week.
We have over 140 children in our youth cast this year. These kids have been working hard, rehearsing every week and trying out their costumes. The dress rehearsals have been absolutely stunning; I can only imagine what the performance itself is going to be like.
So as we begin the final countdown, we’ll keep an eye out on our audience and hope to see you there!
